Movie Trivia Meme

Gakked from thinkerofthunks: this was an interesting meme! The amount and caliber of trivia available for the movies I picked was highly variable. Several had so much fascinating trivia, it was a wrench to have to select just one; and I had to take one movie off my original list because it’s so obscure, the IMDb had no trivia about it at all!

  • Body Heat (1981) – Actors William Hurt and Kathleen Turner wanted the crew to feel comfortable filming their love scenes. So they lined up the crew and both actors introduced themselves to each crew member. When they did this, both stars were naked.
  • My Dinner With Andre (1981) – The low-budget flick was shot in an abandoned hotel in Virginia – in the winter. “Since we didn’t have the money to heat the hotel, (producer Beverly Karp) brought me a bit of cognac from time to time,” recalls a co-producer. The crew kept warm by wearing ski clothes; the actors just had to act warm, aided by the lights and long underwear.
  • The Big Chill (1983) – Director Lawrence Kasdan’s wife, Meg Kasdan, plays the airline stewardess flirting with Sam Weber at the beginning of the film. His two sons also have roles: Jon Kasdan plays Harold and Sarah’s son in the bathtub, and Jacob Kasdan plays the boy seeking Sam’s autograph at the wake.
  • Romancing the Stone (1984) – Both Sylvester Stallone and Christopher Reeve turned down the role of Jack T. Colton, before Michael Douglas accepted the part.
  • Quiz Show (1994) – Before filming began, Ralph Fiennes wanted to speak with Charles Van Doren in person to get his accent down for the role. However, the feeling was that Charles Van Doren would not want to help with the film at all. So Ralph Fiennes and one of the film’s staff drove to the town in rural Connecticut where Charles Van Doren lives. They found Charles Van Doren sitting on a chair outside his house, and Ralph Fiennes pretended to be a lost driver and asked him for directions.
  • The Truman Show (1998) – Dennis Hopper was originally cast as Christof, but walked off the set after his first day. Ed Harris replaced him and went on to win the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor and an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
  • Sleepy Hollow (1999) – Star Johnny Depp adopted Goldeneye, the horse that played Gunpowder, Ichabod Crane’s horse in the film, when he heard it was going to be put down.
  • Unbreakable (2000) – Charlayne Woodard, who plays the mother to Samuel L. Jackson’s character, is actually almost a full 5 years younger than her on screen son.
  • Batman Begins (2005) – While shooting on the streets of Chicago, a person accidentally crashed into the Batmobile. The driver was apparently drunk, and said he hit the car in a state of panic, believing the Dark Knight’s vehicle to be an invading alien spacecraft.
  • V for Vendetta (2005) – The cast and crew were only allowed to shoot in the area near the British Parliament and Big Ben from midnight to 4.30 am. Furthermore, they were only allowed to stop traffic for four minutes at a time.
