Random thoughts…

*sigh* It’s snowing. Something else is falling along with the snow, not sure if it’s rain or sleet. There’s a winter weather advisory (on April 4th) for sleet, “an extended period of icing” and then 1 to 3 inches (2.5 to 7.5 cm) of snow, from now through 6:00am tomorrow. Good thing I wasn’t planning on going anyplace!

I’m printing out a hard copy of the typeset book to proofread. I did the galley cover template last night, which was pretty simple as it’s a plain white cover with just text. I might get all that sent out to Lulu before I go to bed tonight…we’ll see. Proofreading will be a big job.

I joined the national organization, PMA. (I got a discount because I already joined the local affiliate, IPNE.) I e-mailed Baker & Taylor for information about their publishers’ services (they’re a wholesaler, not a distributor, but they can get you into libraries and bookstores. Also, PMA members get a discount). I was a little hesitant about the lack of specifics on B&T’s website–all it said was, for more information, e-mail this address–but they shot me off a whole packet of information by return cyber-ping so I guess I did the right thing. I’ve started to use my new domain e-mail address for professional e-mail, too. I still need to set up an e-mail client for it, probably Outlook, but I can access it online via webmail right now.

The whole Internet seems really quiet this week. Is it because of “Holy Week?” Is everyone doing their taxes? Is it just one of those statistical blips? But all of lj, all my e-lists, all my private e-mail, everything but the usual spam barrage (of course) seems much less active than usual.

Gerard Butler was on “The Tonight Show” last night. I actually remembered to watch “Law & Order:SVU” for a change (usually, I forget!) and caught the promos for TTS. It was mildly entertaining, but Jay Leno really put his foot in it. In the context of a discussion about crazy things people did and celebrating the success of “300,” Leno got onto a tangent about whether Gerry “partied much.” You could see Gerry squirming uncomfortably and finally he said something about how he “hasn’t partied in about ten years, really.” Gerry Butler is in recovery, he once had a very serious drinking problem. This is no great secret, so I thought Jay was being exceptionally dense. You don’t kid people in recovery about “partying.” Or am I just too sensitized to this sort of thing? Oh, well. It was a short interview.

Woof. Look at all that snow out there! 🙁
