Well…

My first attempt at making home-made crackers was semi-successful. They’re certainly edible, but I need to tweak my technique a bit more. I found a recipe on a site with the amusing name of BellyBytes.com. It wasn’t the ingredients that I needed so much; it was the specific tip on how to bake them. You have to bake crackers on both sides, which means they all have to be turned over and baked a second time. That’s tricky–but it wound up being easier than I thought, in part because I have several identical cookie sheets. I also made these crackers from all whole-wheat flour instead of part white and part whole-wheat (because I bake everything 100% whole-grain). The final result for my first try is a little bland, and not quite crispy enough. But they aren’t too bad at all. The next batch, I will increase the seasoning, roll them thinner, and bake them longer.

My church service went very well today, too, although attendance was very low. We went downstairs for coffee hour and found a note left by one absent member, apologizing that she had gotten her car stuck in a snow bank for 45 minutes! I guess she stopped by and left some snacks for coffee hour and didn’t stay.

Tomorrow we should finally be able to see the trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, a movie that has been kept under such tight wraps, I have to wonder what kind of threats were written into everybody’s contracts! 🙁
