Good gods, the stuff you don’t think of…

Someone posted on the self-publishing list complaining that they’d sent their book to the Library of Congress (LoC) as required and still hadn’t seen the cataloging information for it. Peter Masterson posted a reply that included these tidbits:

If you submitted a book to the LoC ‘cold’ and by mail there are
several possible reasons for delay. (1) All USPS mail to the LoC goes
to Iowa where it is irradiated to remove any disease spores (think
anthrax in the mail). This can add months to receipt at the LoC.*

*When sending materials to the US Government, it is best to use a courier service, such as FedEx or UPS — ground service is OK.

I didn’t know that! 8-( I’ll have send Mortal Touch to them as soon as it’s published, that’s mandatory for the LCCN number.
