Mount Grace Starting Off on a Positive Note for Our 35th Anniversary

Ray and Laurie DiDonato will protect the 25-acre McAvoy Pond and the surrounding forest landscape. Heron, beaver, turtles, and salamanders can all be seen at the pond, which was mapped as likely to be resilient and maintain high levels of biodiversity over time by the North Quabbin Regional Landscape Partnership’s Strategic Biodiversity Conservation Mapping Project. "Protecting land is the best way that we can ensure that wildlife can survive and adapt, even as climate change impacts our natural communities," said Executive Director Emma Ellsworth.

The DiDonatos are no strangers to conservation and were important partners in the successful efforts to protect nearby Fiske Pond, which became a town conservation area in 2005. "We’re excited to partner with Mount Grace to protect this special place that is dear to our hearts. We always imagined conserving this land next to our home in the hopes of benefitting the diversity and resilience of the wider landscape and the rural character of the area in perpetuity," said Ray DiDonato. The importance of protecting our cherished open spaces and local food sources has been made even more urgent in this challenging year. Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust has helped local landowners and farmers protect hundreds of acres of land in Erving, Royalston, Templeton, and Winchendon, and continues its critical work of conserving land for nature and future generations to enjoy on the cusp of its upcoming 35th Anniversary in 2021.

"In 2021, Mount Grace will celebrate our 35th Anniversary and your support for the Annual Appeal will make all the difference for more projects like this," added Ellsworth. "I encourage everyone interested in making a difference for our region’s natural and working lands to make a year-end gift and help meet our $180,000 goal."
