{"id":699,"date":"2009-07-20T14:11:00","date_gmt":"2009-07-20T14:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vyrdolak.com\/wordpress\/?p=699"},"modified":"2009-07-20T14:11:00","modified_gmt":"2009-07-20T14:11:00","slug":"goodbye-to-john-keel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vyrdolak.com\/wordpress\/?p=699","title":{"rendered":"Goodbye to John Keel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Possibly this is of interest only to Forteans&#8211;certainly he wasn&#8217;t on a par with Walter Cronkite&#8211;but I was saddened to see in the Boston <em>Globe<\/em> that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/bostonglobe\/obituaries\/articles\/2009\/07\/09\/john_a_keel_79_authored_the_mothman_prophecies\/\" target=\"_blank\">John Keel died last week<\/a>. It&#8217;s almost unfortunate that the dismal movie, which had almost nothing whatsoever to do with Keel&#8217;s mind-blowing non-fiction book, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0765341972\/realvampiresreso\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Mothman Prophecies<\/em><\/a>, was made, because it eclipsed Keel&#8217;s real work and his out-of-the-box thinking about paranormal phenomena. Keel was a greater influence on me than anyone else in this respect, and I recommend <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Keel#Bibliography\" target=\"_blank\">his books<\/a>, along with those of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jacques_Vallee\" target=\"_blank\">Jacques Vall\u00e9e<\/a>, to anyone interested in Forteana, anomalous events, and how they relate to history and folklore.
