I’ve been wondering why I hadn’t seen any bats this year. I’ve been reading about the white-nose syndrome<\/a> that has been killing thousands of bats to the west of here, and I found the absence of bats worrisome.<\/p>\n

So, last night, when the sky was almost as dark as when I usually see them, I went out to look for the bats. Sure enough, I saw one, wheeling about over the rooftree, just as they always do right at dusk.<\/p>\n

But only one. In the past, there have always been at least two. Last night, just one little bat by its lonesome.<\/p>\n

I know, I sound horrible ingrateful, don’t I? “Here’s your bat!” “Hmmph. Only one<\/u>?” *wry smile* But there are plenty of other wild things around, and no shortage of bat food.
