Still coming down!

It’s very dark, very gloomy, at noon. I got up to pouring rain. It’s raining now. There’s more rain forecast. The Nashua River at East Pepperell, according to the official record, was at 9.2 feet this morning–flood stage is 8 feet, and the river normally is about 3 feet deep or so north of the dam–this is not a huge river! I don’t know how homes near the river are faring, but our river is designated “Minor to Moderate Flood Stage” by the NOAA (Your Tax Dollars At Work). I may go check my mail at the post office, just to drive over the bridge and look at the river! Yesterday I parked my car and walked over the bridge and back, just to get a good look at the water. I have a 150-foot long dirt driveway and it’s all squishy. There are still flood watches up for the rest of the day, still a state of emergency in effect for Massachusetts and New Hampshire (not Maine apparently although people have been evacuated from their homes in southern Maine). There are school closings and major road closings, and we might get thunderstorms this afternoon.

They’re calling this “historic” flooding and talking about getting federal disaster assistance.
