Quick Updates

My dad is back home with a clean bill of health. He had just about every test imaginable, including a CT scan, I think–he said MRI but he had to drink yucky stuff which is usually a CT scan–at 2:00am! This was not because it was a crisis, this was because the hospital was so jammed with people that Radiology was running 24/7 and every possible space that could have a bed or gurney had one. Dad spent 36 straight hours in the ER because no room ever became available to admit him!

Official diagnosis was a bout of acute pancreatitis, cause unknown (negative for gallstones, although he had a classic gallstone attack). I went down and picked him up at about 5:00pm.

Meanwhile, I sold an article to the Broad Universe Broadsheet, an online magazine (that is picked up by Locus Online). A whole $25, whee! I mailed the contract back today. Broad Universe is an organization for women SF/F/H writers and I did a piece about “writing the vampire novel.”

Alas, that’s not enough pay to qualify the article toward membership in Horror Writers Association (which accepts non-fiction toward its membership qualification). I’m still trying to think of a good topic for The Fortean Times!
