annef, I found how to make the illumination effect to give that little flush of light in the palm of the hand, and I also was much more careful selecting the hand so it looks more neat.
madrigalist, I didn’t want to use red for the text because I want the only red on the cover to be the blood on the fingertips. I made the text gray, and I added gold drop shadows. Is this less harsh? (The previous text was not white, but very pale gray-blue–almost white, especially against the dark background).
I’m still not entirely happy with this and I think it’s the items at the bottom that are bothering me. I’m wondering if I should have another row in the background, and fade to plain black underneath the hand. It just doesn’t look right.
