Virtual Programs Offered by the Beals Memorial Library

Beals Storytime
Manuel King, Director of the Beals Memorial Library, reading children’s books for the library’s Stuck @ Home Storytime Youtube series.

Are you looking for something fun and educational to do with your kids while social distancing? Do you need some great children’s books that’ll have them rolling over laughing? Then check out the Beals Memorial Library’s new Youtube channel at www.youtube.com/channel/UCnldluUWpHzXlfoInqb47_A for some great, virtual programs that are sure to keep the kids busy and entertained!

For some great children’s book read-aloud videos, check out the library’s Stuck @ Home Storytime series. Uploaded every Wednesday at 1 PM, Stuck @ Home Storytime features a variety of books, including the popular Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons, by James Dean and Matthew A. Cherry’s Hair Love, an adaptation of the Oscar-winning short film by the same name. Each story is read aloud by either the Beals Memorial Library’s director, Manuel King, or by other members of the library staff and community, and they’re all available to check out through curbside pickup. The next book will be Down in the Woods at Sleepytime, by Carole Lexa Schaefer.

For more hands-on activities, the library has two programs to choose from this summer: Grab & Go Crafts and 5-Minute Experiments. Every Monday at 1 PM, the library is uploading instructional videos, alternating each week between crafts and science experiments. They’re also offering ten grab bags per activity that will provide most of the key materials needed to do the program at home alongside the video instructions. The next activity will be a Rock Art Grab & Go Craft on Monday, August 17th.

If you’d like to check out these programs, visit the Beals Memorial Library’s website at www.bealslibrary.org/summer-reading-club2020 and follow the links provided under their “Video Programs” sidebar.

The Beals Memorial Library is located at 50 Pleasant Street in Winchendon. For more information or to reserve a craft or experiment grab bag, call the library at 978-297-0300.

NEW DATE
The Winchendon Firefighters Relief Association is proud to anounce its 6th Annual Golf Tournament. This event is Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the Templewood Golf Course, Templeton, MA.

As a major infrastructure in town, we hope The Winchendon Firefighters Relief Association can rely on you to back this worthy event. A show of your support will greatly strengthen this fundraiser and potentially increase the sponsorship of other local entities as well. Our goal is to maximize our field of golfers and raise more money than ever before. To do this, we truly need your help!

Monies raised will further our ability to help those in need, educate the community in fire safety (with special focus on children and senior citizens), award scholarships to graduating seniors, and provide for those less fortunate during the holiday season.

We invite you to help however you can--whether it be as a sponsor, vendor, golfer, raffle item donor, or any combination thereof! With your commitment to aid in our fundraising goal, this year's tournament will allow us to help the community more than ever before!

Please call me at the Winchendon Fire Department, 978-297-2324, or via email at WFDrelief@gmail.com. Thank you for considering this special request and I look forward to speaking with you soon.

“American Pickers” to Film in New England

Mike Wolfe, Frank Fritz, and their team are excited to return to Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont! They plan to film episodes of the hit series American Pickers throughout the area in September.

We understand that with the proliferation of COVID-19, we are all facing very uncertain times. We at American Pickers are taking the pandemic very seriously and will be following all guidelines and protocols for safe filming as outlined by each state. While we plan to be in New England in September, we will continue to re-schedule if conditions change for the worse. Regardless, we are excited to continue to reach the many collectors in the area to discuss their years of picking!

AMERICAN PICKERS is a documentary series that explores the fascinating world of antique “picking” on History. The hit show follows Mike and Frank, two of the most skilled pickers in the business, as they hunt for America’s most valuable antiques. They are always excited to find sizeable, unique collections and learn the interesting stories behind them.

As they hit the back roads from coast to coast, Mike and Frank are on a mission to recycle and rescue forgotten relics. Along the way, the Pickers want to meet characters with remarkable and exceptional items. The pair hopes to give historically significant objects a new lease on life, while learning a thing or two about America’s past along the way.

Mike and Frank have seen a lot of rusty gold over the years and are always looking to discover something they’ve never seen before. They are ready to find extraordinary items and hear fascinating tales about them. AMERICAN PICKERS is looking for leads and would love to explore your hidden treasure. If you or someone you know has a large, private collection or accumulation of antiques that the Pickers can spend the better part of the day looking through, send us your name, phone number, location and description of the collection with photos to:
